David Driesen, University Professor at Syracuse University College of Law, will be speaking at the law school about
his new book, The Economic Dynamics of Law. The book
posits that instead of treating law as a transaction, we should
treat law as an effort to avoid systemic risk while keeping open a
robust set of opportunities, focus on change over time, and
employ economic dynamic analysis (a form of institutional economic
analysis) to analyze trends and law's likely effects. Professor Driesen engages in public service relating to
constitutional and environmental law. He has written numerous
amicus briefs in Supreme Court cases and has represented
then-Senators Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Joseph Biden, and
others in Clean Air Act litigation in the D.C. Circuit. The talk
will take place in the Dean's Seminar Room from 2:00-3:30 pm
on Dec. 12, and is open to all members of the Boalt community.
